- How do I alphabetize my learning objectives?
Who can do this? Editors and managers with rights to the level-4 object, and admins
You can do this from two different panels:
- "Edit Level 4 Object" panel (for an already existing level-4 object)
- "Add Level 4 Object" panel (when adding a new level-4 object)
This is a helpful feature especially when you have several LOs for the level-4 object. With forced alphabetization turned on, you can start to see LOs that may be similar. The alphabetization is done using the full text of the LO (not the abbreviated two- or three-word LOs). In other words, the abbreviated LOs will be in the same order you will see in the expanded LO version.
For this example, we'll use the course Lifespan Development from the Psychology level-3 folder. This level-4 object contains very large lists of LOs grouped into only a handful of competencies. Forcing alphabetization can help users locate specific LOs within each competency quicker and easier. However, some teams may prefer a specific LO flow over alphabetization, so be mindful of your users when making this change.
Note: This will only affect the c-layer LO order, not the bundle layer. The bundle layer LOs should reflect the learning order.
To force alphabetization on an existing level-4 object
(1) Navigate to the desired level-4 object and turn on "Edit" mode
(2) Click on the center of the course
(3) Click the "pencil" editing icon
The "Edit Level 4" panel will open. Click on "Alphabetize LOs in [c-layer element name]". The name will vary from organization to organization.
Once your learning objectives are alphabetized you will notice how much easier it is to see repeating verbs.
While repeating verbs across different LO statements often reflects good design, identical LO statements may not. Check out this related article: Why are duplicate LOs a problem?
