LTI 1.3 is the 1EdTech security standard for integrations.
Brightspace D2L admins who are also Coursetune admins can install Coursetune's LTI 1.3 tool.
- If Coursetune's LTI 1.1 is already installed, the integration will NOT automatically update to LTI 1.3. To update from LTI 1.1 to LTI 1.3, please follow instructions beginning with Part 2: LTI Key.
- Be sure to share the Oauth 2.0, tool, and deployment to the same org unit.
To set up Coursetune in your Brightspace instance, you must be an admin in both accounts. You will do this in four steps:
- Create a new tool provider in Brightspace
- Create a new link in Brightspace
- Register an App
- Add Coursetune to your Brightspace Navbar
Start by logging in to your Coursetune account, and click on the hamburger button in the top bar. Then, select Integrations from the dropdown menu.
Select D2L Brightspace from the dropdown menu.
Leave this panel open. You will be copying information from the panel later.
In a separate browser tab, log in to your D2L Brightspace admin account.
Overview:
Part 1. Oauth2.0
Step 1: Create Oauth 2.0 tool
1. In your D2L Brightspace admin account, click on the settings wheel in the upper right corner, and click Manage Extensibility.
2. Click OAuth2.0, and then click Register an app.
3. Name the app Coursetune.
4. Select the copy clipboard icon to the right of the Redirect URI oauth2.0 from Coursetune’s D2l Brightspace Integrations page, and paste into the Redirect URI field.
5. Under the Scope, copy and paste this exact string by clicking on the copy clipboard: content:*:* core:*:* discussions:*:* grades:*:* quizzing:*:*
6. Make sure that the Access Token Lifetime is 3600 secs (should be default).
7. If desired, add the description.
8. Check Prompt for user consent, Enable refresh tokens, and I accept the Non-Commercial Developer Agreement.
9. Click Register.
Step 2. Update Coursetune
9. Copy the Client ID, and paste into the Coursetune Application Key field.
10. Copy the Client Secret, and paste into the Coursetune Application Secret field.
11. Copy your organization's Platform URL from your browser (ends with .com) into the Coursetune Platform URL field. (Make sure there is no https:// pasted)

Click Save in your Coursetune Integrations Panel.
Part 2. LTI 1.3
Step 1: Create LTI Advantage tool
- In Brightspace D2L, From the Admin settings, select External Learning Tools.
- Select LTI Advantage.
- Select Register Tool.
- Select Dynamic.
- In Coursetune, copy the Tool initiation registration endpoint and paste it in Brightspace D2L.
- Check Configure deployment.
- Select Register.
- A success message will open in a new window. Click Close.
- By default, the tool is disabled in Brightspace, so select All or Disabled to find the Coursetune tool.
- Click on the name of the Coursetune/Catalyst tool. Enable the Coursetune/Catalyst tool using the toggle at the top.
- In Brightspace, click Save at the very bottom of the screen.
Step 2. Update Coursetune
- In Brightspace, copy the Client ID (shown above in Step 1.10).
- In Coursetune, click the edit pencil to the right of Client ID, paste in the copied value from Brightspace D2L.
- In Coursetune, click on the edit pencil to the right of Issuer. Then, copy the URL of the Brightspace instance from the browser, and paste it into Coursetune.
Step 3. Update Deployment
- In Brightspace, click View Deployments.
- In the Deployment, verify the following items:
Security Settings
Check Org Unit Information
Check User Information (all options)
Add Org Units
Add as appropriate
- In Brightspace, copy the Deployment Id at the very bottom of the screen.
- In Coursetune, click the edit pencil and paste the Deployment Id.
- In Coursetune, click Save.
Step 4. Create Link
- In Brightspace, from the Deployment screen, select View Links.
- Select New Link.
- Type a tool title such as Coursetune/Catalyst.
- In Coursetune, click on the copy clipboard to the right of the URL, then paste it into the URL field in the Brightspace Link (shown above).
- In Brightspace, verify that Type is Basic Launch.
- In Brightspace, Save.
Step 5. Add Coursetune Link to Courses
The Coursetune/Catalyst link should now be available to all courses within the assigned Org Unit as an External Tool. Follow Brightspace D2L documentation for adding a link in Course Navigation or other options.
