A common question is why are there activity types in Coursetune? The answer is for reporting. Categorizing your lessons and assessments into activity types yields valuable insights about these groupings across a course (level-4 object), program (level-3 folder), and even across the Institution level (Level 1). You can name the activity whatever you want, but it needs to align to a specific category.
Assessment Activity vs. Learning Activity (non-assessment)
Every institution, department, and course instructor is going to make different choices about whether a particular category is an assessment activity or a learning activity. For example, “Discussion” - is it learning or assessment?

While this is the default, you can go in to the Activity Settings Panel to change this assignment for the course, or make the choice on an activity-by-activity basis.

On the circle graph, learning activities will still visualize in the green rings, while assessments will now visualize in the gold rings.
You can choose to visualize all assessments at once, all learning activities at once, or both categories all at once.
When a single activity or assessment is selected within the course, the details of it appear in the Descriptions panel.
