- Where can I select the level of an LO scale on a learning objective?
LO scales provide a framework for the progression of learning throughout a course, the scaffolding. It's a great way to articulate where students should be in their progress toward course outcomes and program outcomes, at any point in the course. Seeing LO scales on the Course Graph (circle view) gives a visual clue into the level of the objectives and content so that you can compare it with where the leveling should be for the course within a specific program.
Diving deeper, using two or more LO scales can make sense for some instructors and designers.
Let's look at two popular use cases:
- Two scale strategy - intentionally use one scale as a framework for the scaffolding of learning, and another scale as a framework for the assessment strategy. Example, Blooms (learning) and ESIL (assessment)
- Multiple scale choices - give instructors the freedom to use their preferred scale. This may be in the absence of a scale determined by the institution or curriculum committee. Or this may be in addition to the scale determined by the institution or curriculum committee. For example, your institution or accrediting body may require the use of a particular LO scale, let's say Blooms, but your program manager may have declared Marzano, and let's say you prefer Fink. You can have them all, by switching scales in the settings for a course, program, or division.
There are a few ways to select the level of the LO scale for your learning objectives:
- Through the Add New Learning Objective panel
- Through the Edit Learning Objective panel
- Through the Expanded Learning Objective panel
- Through the LO Batch Editor
