How do I lock or unlock a course (level-4 object)?

Some industries and subject areas require strict regulation around the curriculum structure, alignment, and mapping to standards. Some do not. The level of varying governance needs across courses and programs is extremely difficult to manage at scale across a school district, college, university, or system. For this reason, we have a feature that allows Admin to Lock a specific course that has been approved or that is ready to enter a review for approval. A locked course can still accept comments and suggestions, and still have task list priorities identified for a future edit, but it will not allow any in-the-moment edits unless it is first unlocked.

The Lock icon that appears on the course center circle also offers an easy, at-a-glance view of which courses are approved and which are not; which are completed and which are not; etc. Any process you have in place that requires a formal check or approval will benefit from using this feature.

Note: If you are an admin, you can navigate to the Course Lock panel through the Lock sitting on the circle graph, as well as through the admin menu in the right panel.

To lock a course (level-4 object)

Step 1: As a Coursetune admin, you might want to lock a course that has been approved or that is ready to enter a review for approval. To do this, start by clicking on the menu (hamburger button) in the upper right panel, and select Course Locks.

Step 2: Once in the Locks panel, click on Lock Course, and search for the desired course. Once found, click Lock.

The locked courses will be listed in the Locks panel, showing you where the course is located, who they were locked by, the date they were locked, and also whether they are a source course or regular course.

To unlock a course (level-4 object)

Step 1: If it's time to unlock a course, there are two ways to navigate to the Locks panel to do this. As an admin you can click on the menu (hamburger button) in the right panel and choose Course Locks.

Admins can also click the Lock icon sitting on the center of your course circle graph, and then click Go to Locks.

Step 2: Once in the Locks panel, check the box next to the course(s) you'd like to unlock. Then click Unlock, and click OK.

It is important to note that you can still map and comment on proxies of a shared locked course. You cannot edit a proxy course; you must make those edits on the source course. If that source course is locked, then you will need to have it unlocked to be able to edit.
