- Can I pair Blackboard and Coursetune?
- Does Coursetune integrate with my LMS?
Who can do this? Coursetune Admins who are also Blackboard Admins. These instructions apply to Blackboard Learn original experience, Blackboard Learn Ultra experience, and Blackboard Ultra.
To set up Coursetune in your Blackboard instance, you must be an admin in both accounts. You will do this in several steps:
- Locate the Integration in Coursetune
- Rest API Integration
- Register the LTI 1.3 Tool
- Create and Record Deployment
- Create Placement
Step 1-Locate the Integration in Coursetune
Navigate to your Coursetune account. Then, click on the hamburger button in the top bar, and select Integrations from the dropdown menu.
Select Blackboard from the dropdown menu.
You will toggle between this Coursetune screen and Blackboard's admin screens for all the remaining steps.
Step 2- REST API integration
The REST API must be installed once for each environment. Most customers will install on APP. If testing on a lower environment, install on Staging or QA as appropriate.
- Go to System Admin > Integrations > Rest API Integration
- Click on “Create Integration”
- Copy the Application Id from Coursetune by clicking the copy clipboard to the right of the Application ID/Client ID. Then paste into the Blackboard Integration Application ID.
- In “Learn User,” browse for your name and select.
- For “End User Access,” select Yes.
- For “Authorized to Act as a user,” select Yes or Service Default.
- Click Submit.
Step 3- Register the LTI 1.3 Tool
Navigate back to the System Admin panel. Click on LTI Tool Providers.
Click on Register LTI 1.3 Tool.
Paste the same Application ID/Client ID used in the previous step. If your clipboard no longer has the id, navigate to Coursetune > Integrations > Blackboard, and click on the copy clipboard on the right of the Application ID/Client ID.
Submit.
The next screen allows you to customize the LTI link Name and Description.
Verify that appropriate environment is listed in Initiate Login URL, Tool Redirect URL, JWKS URL, and Domain.
No other changes are required to these settings.
Submit.
Step 4- Create and Record Deployment
You are automatically returned to the "LTI Tool Providers" page.
Click on the number in the “Deployments” column. (The number should be zero on installation.) Or, right click on the Coursetune Tool, and select Manage Deployments.
The Manage Deployments screen opens.
Select Create Deployment.
In the Deployment ID Information screen, for Name, type Coursetune
Note: You can add Nodes, but Bb Customer Support reports that node-specific deployments do not yet work. Only default deployments for LTI 1.3 work. If you need to set up multiple nodes, contact Coursetune Support for advice.
Submit.
Now, you need to record the deployment ID in Coursetune.
From the Manage Deployment screen, copy the Default Deployment ID in the top left.
NOTE: As of March 2024, created deployment IDs do not work per Bb Support.
Open Coursetune > Integrations > Blackboard.
Click the edit pencil to the far right of Default Deployment ID, and paste the id.
Click the edit pencil to the far right of Platform URL, and copy the URL of the Blackboard instance (e.g., https://school.blackboard.com) and then paste.
Click the blue save button at the bottom. You'll know the information has saved when the button turns white.
Step 5- Create the Course Tool Placement
Return to the "LTI Tool Providers" page in Blackboard.
Click on the number in the “Placements” column. (The number should be zero on installation.)
Or, right click on the Coursetune Tool, and select Manage Placements.
From this panel, click on "Create Placement".
In the "Placement Information" section, fill in "Label" and "Handle" fields with "Coursetune"
Mark the "Availability" (yes) radio button, and verify that the "Type" radio button is marked (Course tool) and that the "Allow Student access" is unchecked.
To complete the "Tool Provider Information" section, you will need to click on the copy clipboard to the far right of Target Link URL in Coursetune > Integrations > Blackboard.
Then, paste the "Target Link URL" into the field.
Submit.
For the Coursetune LTI tool to appear in “Course Tools,” you will need to have an instructor with a valid Coursetune account enrolled in the course.
If the LTI tool has been configured correctly, the integration should automatically be populated when you open or view the course and then expand the Course Tools menu.
Clicking on Coursetune will now walk you through the steps to link your Blackboard course with a Coursetune course.
Now, faculty and staff will be able to access Coursetune. They can link their Blackboard course to their Coursetune course and edit their Coursetune course while in Blackboard. Here are some instructor-facing directions to share with them:
