Outcome Scales are used in course design as an additional layer of information that helps describe some particular feature of that outcome and how it scaffolds across a collection of courses. For example, I,R,M stands for Introduce, Reinforce, Master and describes the progression of a student's mastery of a specific outcome it would be paired with. Each outcome scale allows you to add more information to the course design. You can choose up to two outcome scales to turn on and map to the elements on your course circle graph. Coursetune also includes a place to create your own custom scale for tracking progression, labeling, or for any other creative idea! To get started using this information, a manager or editor over a course (level-4 object) will need to turn it on first. Keep reading to see how!

Turning on scales:
Customizing your own scale:
As a manager or editor over a course (level-4 object), you can turn on up to two scales at a time to map and visualize on your circle graph. You must turn on the scales on each individual outcome set.
The default settings for outcome mapping will be Checkmarks, which will display gray mapping on the circle graph, and checkmarks in the Mapping Grid without scales.

Ready to turn on Outcome Scales?
Step 1: Begin at the course level (level 4), and make sure edit mode is turned on. Select an outcome set in the right panel, and click the editing pencil.
Step 2: In the Outcome Set Batch Editor, click on the gear, and click on the Select Scales dropdown menu. Choose up to two scales. It is important to note that you can only show two outcome scale (or checkmark) visualizations at a time. When you check on on and off, the mapping data is saved, even when the visualization is turned off. Simply check the box again to see it on the circle graph.
This means you could have as many scales as you'd like mapped.
*Checkmarks will be checked by default*
Your course is ready to be mapped to Outcome Scales!
Customize Your Own Scale
Don't see your scale? No problem! As an Admin, you can customize your own.
Step 1: First, click on the drop-down menu (often called the hamburger button) in the right top bar. Then, select Customizations from the menu.
Step 2: Select Outcome Scales in the left panel, and then click on Add Outcome Scale.
Step 3: In the Add New Outcome Scale panel, name the scale, and input the level names (you can add as many as you need by clicking Add Level). Add the short level name (singular letter or number), and choose the colors for each level.
Click Save and the scale is ready to use. It will show up in the drop-down menu of available scales inside the outcome batch editor.
