There might be outcomes present across multiple outcome sets that will always need to be mapped at the same time to an element within your program or course. If this is the case, using the Coursetune Mapping Cascade feature could be the road to take. Mapping Cascades allow Admins and Managers to connect outcomes by creating a mapping shortcut. When you map from an outcome with a cascade, all the connected outcomes are automagically mapped too. Mapping cascades instantly show alignment across course, program, and division outcomes.

If you're ready to create a Mapping Cascade, you must be an Admin or Manager. First, you need to select the lowest possible level of outcome as the Anchor, and work your way up to the higher level outcome sets.

For example, you may have a program level set that contains an ideal Anchor outcome, that rolls up to your University Goals, with some other division level outcomes in between. Start with the program level outcome as the Anchor.

Step 1: Once you have decided upon the Anchor, navigate to the correct level (in this example, we will use Level 3, or the Program level, since that is where the example outcome set sits). Begin by turning on Edit mode, and click the Cascade Icon located in the upper right panel.

Step 2: Click on + Create/Edit Cascade. The panel that opens will be where you select your Anchor outcome set. Remember to select the lowest possible level (in this case, a level 3 program outcome set). You can see the level icon next to the outcome set, in case you need to know what level the set exists on. Click Next when you're ready.

Step 3: Now you can select the outcome sets that will connect to the Anchor outcomes. You may select as many as needed as long as the outcome sets are the same level or higher level. Click Next when you're ready.

Step 4: Now you are in the Mapping Cascades panel, where you will select the Anchor outcome(s) or suboutcome(s), and make the connections to other outcomes/suboutcomes.

On the right side of the panel, the outcome set containing the Anchor outcome(s)/suboutcome(s) will be listed. Across the top of the panel, the outcome sets you wish to connect to the Anchors will be listed.

To connect an outcome or suboutcome to an Anchor, click the box where the two elements intersect. An arrow icon will appear, indicating that the Anchor is now connected to the outcome/suboutcome.

Now you can repeat those steps by selecting another anchor, and connecting the outcomes/suboutcomes it aligns with. You can have as many Mapping Cascades as you'd like. Two use case examples could be:

Program outcomes that always map to higher level outcomes in Division and Institution level sets.

Two Division level sets that have connections between their outcomes, such as the NONPF Core Competencies and the AACN Essentials:

Remember, the initial set up for Mapping Cascades may take some time and thought; however, once the connections are made, the time savings experienced when mapping from here on out will be magical!
