The Variations feature allows Editors to make a specific type of course proxy that retains the C-Layer design of course goals but allows for changes to the Bundle design layer and activities. This feature works well for certain use cases but isn't a solution for everyone. Managers or Admins may want to turn off the Variations feature to control the course design process or to focus the choices for course creation. Copying, sharing, and starting from scratch might be preferred course options for certain programs or projects. The feature can be turned off, but only when all course variations have been deleted, and only the Base Variation is left. This functions similarly to proxy courses. A source course becomes a normal course once the last proxy has been deleted.
Step 1: As a Manager or Admin, you may want to turn off Variations on a course. To do this, you need to start on the course (level-4 object), and make sure Edit mode is on. Click on the Variations icon in the right panel.
Step 2: Click the Variations OFF/ON toggle, then click the Turn Off button in the panel to finish. (The Variations OFF/ON toggle will be grayed out if any variations still exist).
Note: You may want to consider exporting the course first before you delete any course variations. An exported Base Variation will retain all course variations. You can also export individual course variations, which will then become normal courses.
