When everything is in its place, it feels good, doesn't it? Orphaned LOs are Learning Objectives that need a home in a Bundle or a C-Layer element. The red Orphaned LOs want attention because they help complete the story of the course. On the Bundle Layer of a course, the Orphaned LOs want to be placed in a Bundle that they are taught in. On the C-Layer, they want to be placed in the C-Layer element, such as a course objective or competency, that they enable or support. When you give the orphans a home in each layer, you complete the connection between what students are learning, why (C-Layer), and when (Bundles). Everything has a place in Coursetune to help you tell the story of your curriculum.
“Leadership has recognized the importance of how content, the delivery of content, the structure of content greatly affects the success and retention of students in online courses. That's one of the items that I would not have been able to gain ground on, had it not been for a product like Coursetune.” -Barbara Williamson-Holley, Assistant Director of Instructional Technology and Distance Education, South Carolina State University |
Step 1: Ready to find your orphans their homes? Editors and managers with rights to the course and admins can start by navigating to the desired course (level-4 object), and turn on the Edit mode.
Step 2: Click on Orphaned LOs (red text) to expand the Orphaned LOs category. You can select, drag, and drop these orphans into the appropriate c-layer or bundle. (You may be very familiar with the LO list and their abbreviations, in which case you can simply click, drag, and drop the abbreviated orphaned LOs to the correct c-layer or bundle.)
When all the orphaned LOs have been categorized, the Orphaned LO category will disappear.
If you ever want the Orphaned LO category back, you can drag an LO to the course center to recreate it.
You can edit an orphaned LO in the same manner as a normal LO. From Edit mode, select the orphan, and then click on the Edit Pencil.
